Road and commercial vehicle safety standards are increasingly demanding worldwide. New and existing systems – such as electronic braking systems or distance warning and control systems – can further support the drivers and add to safety. Networked software systems will be a key to further increasing vehicle and road safety. WABCO's test tracks provide optimal conditions to test and refine new systems so they meet tomorrow's demanding customer and regulatory requirements.
Ongoing trials throughout the product development process – from the first prototype to the start of series production – are indispensable in order to provide credible and reliable performance data. In addition to intensive software-based testing, since the mid-1970s a key element of WABCO's development process takes place on test tracks. WABCO is the only commercial vehicle industry supplier that today operates three privately owned test tracks:
Each test track is specially designed for commercial vehicle trials. They allow us and our customers to truly test for the world market – on all imaginable roadbeds, in all weather conditions, from extreme and dry coldness to extreme heat and high humidity. In addition to our own tracks we also use commercial truck facilities in the US and Japan. Many WABCO products make an important contribution to road safety. At the test track we repeatedly test braking, stability control, ABS, drive slip control, air suspension, and tire pressure monitoring systems on a range of challenging road surfaces. It's an additional quality assurance for manufacturers, fleet owners, distributors and drivers alike to know that WABCO has a development program which enables repeated and reproducible testing, which scientifically validates and helps modify new or evolving systems and components.
All test tracks enable us to apply and increase what we call WABCO's "life of the vehicle" expertise. We test our own new product and system ideas. And we partner with vehicle manufacturing customers as they design and test their prototype vehicles. What we learn and validate at the test track further shapes our work together as new model vehicles go into production. But those same WABCO products and systems will also one day become repair or replacement systems and components during a vehicle's commercial service life. For fleet operators, vehicle owners and drivers, WABCO test tracks are an important assurance of aftermarket reliability and performance. That's because WABCO products have been scientifically tested right from the beginning and in some of the most demanding road, weather and vehicle operating conditions possible.
