WABCO's Overload Warning helps to protect against overload penalties, rejected axle claims and road damage.
How can the driver of a tipper trailer, a silo trailer or a tank trailer know the trailer’s axle load when bulk cargo is loaded on his trailer? When stopped by the police, the driver of an overloaded trailer receives a financial penalty and loses hours of time. In some countries, severe overloading can even result in immediate immobilization of the vehicle.
Overloaded trailers typically damage the roads which leads to more frequent road repair interventions and consequent traffic jams.
Axle manufacturers typically reject claims when frequent and significant axle load is identified.
When can you use it?
Typically when loading a tipper trailer with bulk cargo, the charger simply fills the trailer up to the edge resulting in overload. Also when filling a Silotrailer or Tanker with pellets or fluids, the trailer weight easily reaches the legal limit.
WABCO’s Overload Warning function alerts the driver with a red alarm light when the maximum load level is reached. The driver can stop the loading process and prevent the trailer from being overloaded.
How does it work?
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
WABCO Trailer EBS version D and E
Air suspension or mechanical suspension
WABCO SmartBoard on the trailer
Optional: new Trailer Remote Control for in the truck cabin (available from December 2011)
INSTALLATION
The trailer manufacturer or fleet manager sets 2 load weight levels in the SmartBoard Diagnostic software
The first level is a warning level. It indicates that the axle load is close to the maximum level
The second level is the maximum load level
OPERATION
The Overload Warning function continually measures the air pressure in the suspension system. It uses the air pressure to calculate the actual load on the axles with up to 99% accuracy depending on the composition of the air suspension system
The actual axle load is displayed on the trailer’s SmartBoard or on the new Trailer Remote Control in the truck’s cabin (available from December 2011)
When the axle load exceeds the first load level, the text “Axle Load” starts flashing on the SmartBoard display.
When the axle load exceeds the second load level, the text “Axle Load” and the red alert LED flashes on the SmartBoard
What are the advantages?
The flexibility to measure the trailer’s load at any location
Low cost system: overload warning only requires WABCO EBS, air suspension system or mechanical suspension and SmartBoard
The driver can stop the loading process when the maximum axle load is reached and avoid overload
Maximize trailer load without the risk of overload penalties and loss of time
With the Trailer Remote Control, the driver can safely stay in the cabin during the loading
Avoid axle problems due to frequent overload
Avoid that axle manufacturers can reject a warranty claim based on axle overload
