Remanufacturing – the business advantage

Joe Kripli, Global Business Enterprise Leader I am often asked by industry OEM’s about maintaining the quality level of remanufactured parts. First of all, the quality level does not have to be lower than the OEM’s ‘new part’ quality level. We have to approach remanufacturing solutions by keeping in mind a key fact; we are not fundamentally changing the design or component integrity level within the product.

As a remanufacturer, WABCO Reman Solutions is simply repairing what has failed and using this opportunity to add further value by incorporating OEM selected component upgrades.  The components selected for upgrade are usually based on the warranty information received from the OEM commissioning the work. This OEM warranty information offers valuable “hind sight” vision. We can understand the inherent warranty failures at start of series production and use this learning to upgrade the part to the latest version of the component - or even replace the part if we know that it is susceptible to early life failure.

In addition, the remanufactured part automatically receives the latest revised software level, thus insuring that the finished product has the benefit of both the latest hardware and software updates when it is released to the field again – of course –only after it has also been tested to the OEM’s specifications and meets the OEM’s quality level.
