WABCO Showcases Innovations for Mobilizing Vehicle Intelligence at Automotive Engineering Exposition 2017 Yokohama; Introduces OptiFlow Aerodynamic Solutions in Japan

YOKOHAMA, Japan, May 22, 2017 – WABCO (NYSE: WBC), a leading global supplier of technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, will showcase its most advanced technologies at Automotive Engineering Exposition 2017 Yokohama, one of the largest expositions in Japan for automotive engineers. The trade event will take place from May 24-26, 2017 in Yokohama, Japan.

WABCO will feature several of its key enabling technologies and functionalities that help enable the commercial vehicle industry’s vision of autonomous driving. In addition, WABCO will introduce its industry-leading OptiFlow aerodynamic solutions for the first time in Japan.

Differentiating WABCO products and systems on display will include:

  • Industry-Leading MAXX™ Single-Piston Air Disc Brakes (ADB) – The lightest and highest performing single-piston air disc brake for commercial vehicles, WABCO’s MAXX brakes offer shorter stopping distances and easier, faster maintenance than conventional drum brakes. With 25% fewer parts compared to other ADB available in the market today, WABCO ADB feature superior reliability, faster serviceability and expanded service intervals of up to twice that of traditional drum brakes. Superbly engineered and compactly designed, WABCO’s range of MAXX air disc brakes fits any rim size from 17.5 to 22.5 inches across light-, medium-, and heavy-duty applications for trucks, buses and trailers. WABCO recently launched series production of its MAXX 19 air disc brake for the commercial vehicle market in Japan following the adoption of its ADB technology by one of the leading commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems – WABCO’s industry-leading portfolio of active safety systems includes its OnGuard™ suite, the industry’s first independently supplied solution for collision mitigation systems (CMS), with nearly 300,000 systems sold worldwide. WABCO will also feature its OnLane™ easy-to-install lane departure warning system and breakthrough ESCsmart™ electronic stability control, which mitigates annually up to an estimated one million critical driving situations worldwide. In addition, WABCO will showcase its OnCity™ Urban Turning Assist, a breakthrough innovation that helps protect pedestrians and cyclists in city traffic. OnCity is the commercial vehicle industry’s first collision avoidance system that uses LiDAR technology for the purpose of object detection.

WABCO will also introduce its advanced OptiFlow™ Tail and SideWings aerodynamic solutions to the Japanese market. Aerodynamic products reduce air drag of commercial trailers traveling long distances at highway speeds. Thereby, OptiFlow Tail and SideWings lower fuel consumption by up to 7% when used in combination. WABCO’s OptiFlow Tail, the best performing tail in Europe as validated by fleets, delivers fuel savings up to 1.1 liters per 100 km at European highway speeds (85 km/h) and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 2.8 t per trailer per year. Easy-to-install OptiFlow SideWings deliver fuel savings up to 1.5 liters per 100 km at European highway speeds (85 km/h) and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 3.8 t per trailer per year.

“We are excited to showcase WABCO’s latest technologies at the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2017 Yokohama, and to debut our state-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions for the first time in Japan,” said Sujie Yu, WABCO Vice President, Asia Pacific. “As the industry progresses toward the goal of autonomous driving, WABCO is advancing technologies that help our customers mobilize vehicle intelligence while further improving the safety and efficiency of trucks, buses and trailers across the Asia Pacific region and markets worldwide.”

“WABCO’s history of innovation, including our more recent advances in vehicle intelligence, demonstrates our longstanding commitment to deliver value-based technology solutions to our customers,” said Osamu Saito, WABCO Japan Business Leader. “We are excited about partnering with our OEM and fleet customers in Japan to provide the essential technologies to turn the vision of autonomous vehicles into reality.”
