DaimlerChrysler parts organization awards 2005 logistics supplier prize to WABCO
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – 24 MAY 2005 – During its recent annual supplier meeting, DaimlerChrysler's parts organization, DaimlerChrysler GLC, awarded its 2005 logistics prize to WABCO. GLC is responsible for global sourcing and distribution of all Mercedes Benz spare parts. According to DaimlerChrysler, the decisive factors were WABCO's reliability and its exemplary communications management system involving a single point of contact for quick solutions and effective decision-making.

WABCO supplies DaimlerChrysler GLC with a range of more than 1,800 parts and makes an average of 450 deliveries to the company every month.

"The reliability of the deliveries that we receive from our long-standing supplier WABCO has improved immensely over the last few years and has now stabilized at more than 90 per cent," said Siegfried Kehler, DaimlerChrysler GLC supplier management team leader. "Every delivery we receive from WABCO is coordinated by a central contact. We are advised promptly of even the smallest changes to delivery schedules. WABCO gives the same level of priority to every single part and they achieve this despite the fact that we receive a total of more than 1,800 parts from four WABCO depots in three countries: France, Germany and Poland."

Kehler also highlighted WABCO's exceptionally short response time - usually less than two hours - and the competence of its customer service team.

Feedback GLC received from other DaimlerChrysler departments about the working relationship with WABCO was also very positive. According to Kehler, ongoing communications with the "extremely competent technical team" at WABCO and the regular advice offered by the supplier helped DaimlerChrysler GLC to standardize and rationalize its range of parts.

"Recognition from DaimlerChrysler is welcome confirmation of our permanent, companywide efforts to optimize the reliability of our deliveries and quality and service in our supply chain", states WABCO's Carsten Düvell, vice president, Integrated Supply Chain. "Regular communication and a partnership approach with customers are essential so we can continuously learn and understand more about what services our customers need and value. We'll keep looking for ways to improve our ability to work internally as an integrated team with a common goal of providing superb customer service. This recognition of the combined efforts of our international, multi-functional customer service team is tremendous encouragement that we are making good progress in the right direction".

The logistics group within WABCO's integrated supply chain team serves more than 5500 customer locations worldwide and each day coordinates shipments of more than 1500 tons of products and systems in more than 375 trucks.
