| WABCO Brings its Latest Innovations to the Trailer® 2007 Show in Kortrijk, Belgium |
WABCO electronic braking system for Trailers (EBS E-Generation) nominated for Trailer Award® 2007 BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / KORTRIJK, BELGIUM – 20 NOVEMBER 2007 – WABCO, one of the leading providers of electronic braking, stability, suspension and transmission control systems for the commercial vehicle industry, will exhibit its new generation electronic braking system for trailers (EBS E-Generation), SmartBoard, integrated vehicle tire monitoring (IVTM) and Expert Diagnostics at Trailer® 2007 from November 23-27, 2007 (Stand 127, Hall 1). WABCO’s latest innovation in electronic braking systems, Trailer EBS E-Generation, has been nominated for a “Trailer® Award. Winners will be announced on the opening day of the show on November 23. Selection criteria for the international jury are cost-benefit ratio, innovation, influence on the weight, applications, safety, ergonomics and training offered for the new system. In 1996, WABCO pioneered the development and launch of EBS for commercial vehicles. Since then WABCO has sold more than 500,000 EBS systems worldwide. It offers trailer manufacturers a streamlined, optimized solution that will cut down on installation time. In addition, fleet operators benefit from more efficient operation and maintenance, keeping the trailer longer on the road and saving costs. “The Trailer show is a key event for the Benelux and European trailer industry”, says Nick Rens, WABCO Vice President trailer systems. Technology highlights featured on the stand will include: Electronic Braking System for Trailers, E-Generation – Trailer EBS-E offers a high level of integration and paves the way for simplified trailer braking. A new robust connector helps the system withstand the harsh demands of a trailer’s daily life, while fewer components allow for simpler and faster installation. Fleet operators also benefit from improved reliability, enhanced trailer management functions and reduced maintenance costs. Trailer EBS-E is available in two versions – standard and premium – each compatible with an optional Extension Module that provides an integrated overload protection valve and overflow valve. The system also includes Roll Stability Support (RSS), an advanced Operating Data Recorder (ODR) and, in the premium version, Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS). SmartBoard can be added to the Trailer EBS modulator to provide the fleet manager or driver with real-time status updates of the braking system and its components. All information on the operating condition of a trailer as recorded by the advanced ODR can be monitored per trip and over the vehicle lifetime. All data is stored with an exact time stamp. The icon-oriented display allows for easy and simple handling. SmartBoard offers nine different languages to display mileage, axle load, lining wear indication, and tire conditions. A warning lamp informs the driver of messages such as a lack of tire pressure or overload. Combined with ECAS, SmartBoard also serves as a control box for lifting and lowering the chassis and the lift axle. Expert Diagnostics – Expert Diagnostics is a comprehensive multi-purpose, multi-brand and multi-lingual diagnostic system for commercial vehicle workshops. Designed to create new business opportunities for all workshops, Expert Diagnostics is a generic, affordable, flexible, reliable, and easy-to-use modular solution applicable to multiple brands and systems. Depending on their specific needs, workshops can choose from three Expert Diagnostic model options – from a compact, handheld tester to a complete, premium, stand-alone diagnostics system. The system comes with “workshop-proofed” hardware, the latest software, and comprehensive after-sales services, including training, a multi-lingual WABCO hotline, and on-site assistance. Integrated Vehicle Tire Monitoring (IVTM) – IVTM is a wireless tire pressure monitoring system that constantly monitors tire pressure and detects exceeded thresholds for under or over-inflation, as well as slow leaks. The system reduces both the need for frequent manual inspections and the risk of tire-related breakdowns. On trailer, truck and bus applications, IVTM increases security and often pays for itself after preventing just one tire-related breakdown. The system consists of external wheel mounted modules that are connected to the existing valve stem with pneumatic hoses. The modules regularly measure and transmit tire inflation pressure data wirelessly to an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which in turn transmits them to an in-cabin dashboard display monitor. Each ECU can monitor up to 12 wheel modules. Trailers are individually equipped with their own ECU that wirelessly transmits tire inflation data to any IVTM-equipped tractor they are coupled to.
