Company Showcases Advanced Braking Technology, Latest Air Suspension and Tire Monitoring Innovations BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / KIEV, UKRAINE – 28 SEPTEMBER 2007 – WABCO, one of the leading providers of electronic braking, stability, suspension and transmission control systems for the commercial vehicle industry, will demonstrate its anti-lock braking systems (ABS), Trailer EBS E-Generation, Smart Board, Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS) and Integrated Vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring (IVTM) on stand B-04, Hall 7 from October 2-5. Building on the invention of ABS technology for commercial vehicles back in 1981 in partnership with Mercedes-Benz (now DaimlerChrysler), WABCO today offers an unmatched portfolio of innovative braking systems, improving road safety and vehicle operating costs worldwide. With more than five million systems sold, WABCO continues to champion the application of anti-lock braking systems (ABS), which is now mandatory on certain types of heavy commercial trucks, buses and trailers in the Ukraine. WABCO, which has been present in CIS since the early 1960s, serves the region via a decentralized network of eight offices located in close proximity to customers. Headquarters are in Moscow, Russia; Minsk, Belarus and Kiev, Ukraine. Regional headquarter in Moscow were established in 1996. Today, WABCO offers a dealer network and training activities across the entire region with aftermarket support provided from 130 service centres. Technology highlights on the stand will include: Electronic Braking System for Trailers, E-Generation – Trailer EBS-E offers a high level of integration and paves the way for simpler trailer braking. A new robust connector helps the system withstand the harsh demands of a trailer’s daily life, while fewer components allow for simpler and faster installation. Fleet operators also benefit from improved reliability, enhanced trailer management functions and reduced maintenance costs. Trailer EBS E is available in two versions – standard and premium – each prepared for upgrade with an additional Extension Module with integrated overload protection valve and overflow valve. The system includes Roll Stability Support (RSS) , an advanced Operating Data Recorder (ODR) and in the premium version Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS). SmartBoard can be added to the Trailer EBS modulator to provide the fleet manager or driver with a real-time status overview of the braking system and its components. All information on the running conditions of a trailer recorded by the advanced ODR can be monitored per trip and over the vehicle lifetime. All data is stored with an exact time stamp. The icon-orientated display allows easy and simple handling. SmartBoard offers nine different languages to display mileage, axle load, lining wear indication, and tire conditions. A warning lamp informs the driver of messages like a lack of tire pressure or overload. Combined with ECAS, SmartBoard also serves as a control box for lifting and lowering the chassis and for the lift axle. Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) – WABCO pioneered ABS for commercial vehicles 26 years ago and today is one of the global leaders of ABS technology which has become a global industry standard for improving road safety and vehicle operating costs worldwide. ABS ensures stability and steerability of a vehicle on braked wheels, even at full brake application. Electronically Controlled Air Suspension System (ECAS) – The ECAS system is an electronically-controlled four corner air suspension system. The Air Supply Unit allows the speed-dependent lifting and lowering of the body. In addition, vehicles can be raised or lowered to different levels during driving and also while stationary, simply by pushing a button. For vehicles equipped with partial or full air suspension, WABCO has developed a modular concept with a high degree of integration for additional components such as electronic control units, solenoid valves, sensors, wiring, relays etc. This permits complete air supply systems to be assembled individually and customized to client needs. Integrated Vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring (IVTM) – IVTM is a wireless tire pressure monitoring system that constantly monitors tire pressure and detects exceeded thresholds for under or over-inflation, as well as slow leaks. The system reduces both the need for frequent manual inspections and the risk of tire-related breakdowns. On trailer, truck and bus applications, IVTM increases security and often pays for itself after preventing just one tire-related breakdown. The system consists of external wheel mounted modules that are connected to the existing valve stem with pneumatic hoses. The modules regularly measure and transmit tire inflation pressure data wirelessly to an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which in turn transmits them to an in-cabin dashboard display monitor. Each ECU can monitor up to 12 wheel modules. Trailers are individually equipped with their own ECU that wirelessly transmits tire inflation data to any IVTM-equipped tractor they are coupled to.
