Russian Commercial Vehicle Market is Gaining Importance for the Company’s Growth Prospects

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / MOSCOW, RUSSIA – 01 April 2008 – WABCO, one of the leading providers of electronic braking, stability, suspension and transmission control systems for the commercial vehicle industry, will exhibit its innovative Tire Premium Seal, integrated vehicle tire monitoring (IVTM) and new generation electronic braking system for trailers (EBS E-Generation) at ComTrans 2008 from April 22-26, 2008, Exhibition center Crocus Expo (Hall 14, Stand 14-203).

“Russia’s emerging market is part of WABCO’s growth strategy, representing significant potential for our company to expand partnerships with existing customers and establish relationships with new ones,” said Harald Kaess, WABCO Vice President OE Sales & Customer Management. “As a well established supplier of a wide range of high quality products and services, we are committed to bringing our latest technology to ComTrans, a showcase event for the Russian commercial vehicle industry. Product highlights featured on the stand will include:

WABCO Tire Premium Seal – TPS makes the repair process of a leaking tire simpler, quicker and safer than changing a wheel and reduces vehicle downtime. Using Tire Premium Seal, a tire can be temporarily repaired and inflated in about ten minutes, compared to an average 45 minutes to change a wheel in potentially dangerous roadside conditions. In some cases, the use of WABCO Tire Premium Seal can remove the need to use spare tires, when it is not required by applicable laws, helping reduce vehicle weight by up to 300 kg/660 lbs and leading to lower operating costs and increased payload. Puncture holes caused by a nail or a bolt up to 10mm in diameter can be reliably sealed and the tire re-used instantly. After sealing, the tire can be used at a maximum speed of 80 km/h for up to 1,000 km or 14 days. WABCO Tire Premium Seal is based on latex-free sealant technology; after application, tires can be repaired and/or re-treaded. The sealant has safety certifications from major industry bodies. It is standard original equipment on various commercial vehicles and has been tested and approved by leading international vehicle manufacturers. The Tire Premium Seal kit includes a sealant bottle, a valve extractor, a 10m long hose and a tire pressure gauge. The kit can be stored on the truck for up to eight years.

Drivers and fleet owners can benefit further when they combine the new WABCO Tire Premium Seal with WABCO’s Integrated Vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring System (IVTM).

Integrated Vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring system – IVTM was jointly developed with Michelin to permanently monitor tire pressure and detect under- or over-inflation and slow leaks. As a result, fleet operators and drivers benefit from higher safety and mobility, lower fuel costs due to decreased rolling resistance, longer tire life, and reduced service and maintenance downtime. The wireless monitoring system combines simple design and easy installation with highly robust components. It is available for medium and heavy weight commercial vehicles, trailers and buses. The easy-to-retrofit system reports deviations from the desired tire pressure in real time, helping to maintain a vehicle’s tire pressures at the optimum levels.

Electronic Braking System for Trailers, E-Generation – Building on the experience of more than 500,000 Trailer EBS systems sold, Trailer EBS-E offers a high level of integration and paves the way for simpler trailer braking. A new robust connector helps the system withstand the harsh demands of a trailer’s daily life, while fewer components allow for simpler and faster installation. Fleet operators also benefit from improved reliability, enhanced trailer management functions and reduced maintenance costs. Trailer EBS E is available in two versions – standard and premium – each prepared for upgrade with an additional Extension Module featuring integrated overload protection and overflow valves. The system includes Roll Stability Support (RSS), an advanced Operating Data Recorder (ODR); in the premium version, it includes Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS).
