WABCO‘s electronics can be tailored to control any vehicle height adjustment parameter, such as speed-dependent lowering for potential fuel consumption improvements and enhanced safety and handling; increased clearance to allow off-road use or to enable easy trailer hook-up and cargo loading through “on demand” vehicle lowering and lifting. WABCO’s Electronic Shock Absorber Control (ESAC) expertise is currently used in combination with adjustable dampers from a number of leading global suppliers.
The integration of air suspension and shock absorber control into a single microcontroller and shared peripheral sensors to replace multiple, discrete systems. System control ECU input is obtained from accelerometers and height sensors, vehicle speed and other chassis control information. The skyhook controller utilizes control software that processes the sensor information in real time (about 1,000 times a second). And adjusts the damper level of each shock absorber accordingly. “Dynamic”, “Automatic” and “Comfort” modes are available to match the damper characteristics to the driver preference.
