WABCO Displays Technology Leadership at Automotive Engineering Exposition 2019 Yokohama; Showcases the “ACE” Future of Commercial Vehicles in Japan

YOKOHAMA, Japan – May 21, 2019 – WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC), the leading global supplier of braking control systems and other advanced technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, will present its industry-leading technologies at Automotive Engineering Exposition 2019 Yokohama (AEE), the broadest and most popular expositions in Japan for automotive professionals. The event will take place from May 22-24, 2019.

WABCO will showcase how its pioneering innovations are enabling OEMs and fleets to enhance their strategies for differentiation as the commercial vehicle industry moves towards an increasingly Autonomous, Connected and Electric future. Differentiating WABCO products and systems on display at AEE will include:

Autonomous- to Advance Vehicle Autonomy and Road Safety

OnGuardMAX™: WABCO’s advanced collision mitigation solution (CMS) will be showcased for the first time in Japan. OnGuardMAX utilizes a new generation radar sensor, which features long radar detection range and wide near-range field of view, which is combined with the latest camera developed with Mobileye® and is powered by an industry-leading EyeQ4® chip. Providing forward collision warning (FCW) and up to full autonomous emergency braking on moving and stationary vehicles from a highway speed up to 80 km per hour, OnGuardMAX further differentiates through warning and active braking for pedestrians at vehicle speeds up to 20 km per hour.

OnHand™ WABCO’s electro-pneumatic parking brake will also make its premiere appearance in Japan. Innovatively engineered to be the industry's leanest solution, OnHand’s parking brake technology provides automatic engage and release functionalities. Actuated via a dashboard switch, the control system also checks and validates the safe parking of the truck and trailer combination, including on sloping roads. In addition, this parking brake can provide back-up braking in case of an electrical service-brake failure in autonomous driving applications.

Active Steering: WABCO’s world-class steering technologies, combined with WABCO’s active braking capabilities, represent significant technology milestones in support of the industry’s vision for fully-autonomous commercial vehicles.

MAXX™ Single-Piston Air Disc Brakes (ADB): WABCO’s high-performance MAXX™ ADB provide enhanced safety and efficiency with shorter stopping distances and easier, faster maintenance over conventional drum brakes. With up to 25% fewer parts compared to other ADB brands, WABCO’s MAXX ADB offer superior reliability, faster serviceability and expanded service intervals up to twice that of drum brakes. With quality engineering and a compact design, WABCO’s comprehensive MAXX range is suitable for light, medium, and heavy-duty truck, bus and trailer applications. Following the adoption of the technology by one of the country’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, WABCO has launched MAXX™ 19 Air Disc Brakes series production for the Japan market to better meet local customers’ needs.

Connected- to Empower Tomorrow’s Fleets

Smart Trailer FMS: WABCO will introduce a breakthrough fleet management solution (FMS) system which has been adapted to meet the needs of the Japanese market and was jointly developed by WABCO and G7, an award-winning technology leader in China’s logistic industry. Leveraging WABCO’s leading capabilities in telematics, Trailer Electronic Braking Systems (T-EBS) and G7’s telematics expertise, Smart Trailer FMS enables fleet operators to monitor trailers, drivers and cargo in real time and, thereby, optimize transport capacity.

Electric for Greener Transportation

Intelligent Air Management System: the combination of Electronic Air Processing Unit FuelGuard™ and c-comp™ compressor technology enables significant fuel savings. FuelGuard optimizes usage of engine-free energy or "overrun" phases and c-comp™ provides integrated multi-disc clutch to disengage compressor from engine during off-load phases while lowering oil carryover and oil degradation.

OptiDriveTM: WABCO’s award-winning modular transmission automation technology can be easily adapted to a wide range of existing manual gearboxes. OptiDrive improves vehicle control and reduces fuel consumption up to 5%. OptiDrive also improves driver effectiveness by freeing drivers from clutch and shifting operations.

OptiRideTM : The global industry's best-selling solution for electronic control of air suspension, delivers fuel savings of up to 3%, while providing optimal ride performance. Featuring intelligent lift-axle control and load monitoring, OptiRide detects axle overload and provides automatic load transfer to improve the vehicle’s traction performance and reduce operational costs. OptiRide also enables the vehicle’s lifting and lowering, resulting in more efficient cargo handling and time-saving. In addition, the optimal ride quality provided by OptiRide delivers better load protection and more stable truck operation which increase vehicle and road safety.

“For decades, WABCO has gained recognition for our technology leadership through an unrivalled record of break-through innovations,” said Sujie Yu, President, WABCO Asia Pacific. “WABCO is fully committed to powerfully sustaining its differentiation by continuously innovating and integrating critical technologies such as advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle dynamics control systems, sophisticated functions and data services to help realize this vision.”

“Building on our unrivalled track-record of pioneering innovation, we are proud to introduce some of our latest technologies in Japan,” added Osamu Saito, WABCO Japan Business Leader. “Delivering differentiated solutions to support Japan’s original equipment manufacturers produce ever safer and more efficient commercial vehicles, WABCO is helping propel our industry towards a future where people and goods will increasingly be transported by fully autonomous, connected and electric vehicles.”
